Seasonal flu activity not associated with mortality, study finds

People who had the flu within a single calendar day in the previous 30 days were not more likely to die than those who had the flu during most months of the year.
However, people who had the flu during most months of the year were more than twice as likely to die of NCDs.
Rohde is the first author of the study, published in The BMJ.
Moreover, she said the findings emphasize the importance of recognizing seasonal influenza exposure among people with other health conditions.
“Of note, these findings remain consistent with treatment guidelines and recommendations of the Food and Drug Administration regarding the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in persons who had small lung injury during the previous 30 days,” she said.
